Kidnappers Raise Ezeokafor’s Ransom Demand to N1.5bn

The abductors of Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, Chairman of Jezco Group, have reportedly increased their ransom demand from N700 million to N1.5 billion, according to a report by Arise TV.
Ezeokafor, a septuagenarian businessman, was abducted in the early hours of Tuesday while travelling to a prayer ground for his annual spiritual rejuvenation.
A source close to the family, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Arise TV that the kidnappers initially demanded N700 million, with the family prepared to negotiate in a bid to secure his release.
However, the source said the abductors later raised the demand to N1.5 billion, while communication between both parties has reportedly broken down despite efforts by the family to continue discussions.
Ezeokafor was said to have left his residence around 2 a.m. without his security details, a situation believed to have exposed him to the attack.
The abduction has raised concerns among his associates and members of his community, while the Anambra State Police Command and the state government have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The whereabouts of the businessman and ongoing efforts to secure his release remain unclear.
