Over 1,000 Benefit From Bibire’s Free Medical Outreach

Over 1,000 people received free medical attention during a one-day medical outreach organized by Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire.

The programme, held yesterday at Baptist Secondary School, Oke Ado, Ibadan, was effected in partnership with Bibire’s Hope Also Needs Help Foundation during the weekly meeting of the Bibire Peoples Vision Association, which usually draws a large crowd.

Speaking on the outreach, Bibire said the programme, which started in 2017, was set up to give people who may not easily visit a health facility the opportunity to check their health, receive medical advice and get treatment where necessary.

He said, “As Special Adviser on Security, my responsibility covers the safety of lives and property, and good health is also important to the safety and wellbeing of our people, so this is one way I can play my part.”

Bibire also said the programme was in line with the focus of the Governor Seyi Makinde administration on making healthcare available and affordable to the people, especially those who may struggle to meet the cost of treatment.

He said Governor Makinde had continued to invest in the health sector through the renovation and upgrading of healthcare facilities, recruitment and training of health workers, improved access to basic healthcare and support for health insurance and other healthcare programmes across the State.

According to him, “Governor Makinde has shown that the health of our people matters, and that is why we must continue to support the programmes his administration has put in place to make healthcare easier to access, particularly for people at the grassroots.”

The Security Adviser also used the avenue to urge the good people of Oyo State to continue to make use of government health facilities and other available health programmes, saying government efforts would have little effect if people do not take advantage of the services provided them.

Meanwhile, speaking with Polity Reporters, one of the beneficiaries thanked Bibire for bringing the medical service closer to the people, saying the outreach saved him the trouble and expense of looking for medical attention elsewhere.

He said, “I came here because I heard they were attending to people for free, and I have been attended to properly, so I am grateful because not everybody can afford to pay hospital bills whenever they fall sick.”

Another beneficiary said the programme was useful because people were able to check their health and receive treatment without paying for consultation or drugs.

He said, “What they have done here is good because many people would have ignored their health because of money, but today they were able to come here, see a doctor and receive treatment.”

A third beneficiary commended Bibire for bringing the programme to the grassroots, saying the outreach showed that attention could still be given to ordinary people who needed help.

He said, “This is the kind of thing we want to see from people who are close to government, because you are not waiting for people to come and beg before you remember them, you came here and attended to their needs.”

Another beneficiary who disclosed not being a member of APM said he had never expected to benefit from the programme because of his political affiliation, but was surprised that everyone was attended to without discrimination.

He said, “I am not an APM member, but nobody asked me which party I belong to before I was attended to, and I have benefited from this programme like everybody else, so I can say Bibire is looking at the people first, and because of what I have seen today, I am ready to support APM from now on.”
