2027: Shete Bags Bibire’s Huge Endorsement For OYHA

Hon. Olakunle Akinsete, popularly known and politically called Shete, has secured the endorsement of a major political force in Ibadan Southwest Local Government and Oyo State politics, Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, for the Ibadan Southwest State Constituency II seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly in the 2027 election.

Shete received Bibire’s endorsement on Saturday during the weekly meeting of the Bibire Peoples Vision Association, held at Baptist Secondary School, Oke Ado, Ibadan, which attracted a sea of Bibire’s supporters and party members.

Bibire, a frontline APM chieftain and Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde, said the endorsement was part of his commitment to support APM candidates from the top of the ballot to the bottom in the 2027 election.

He, however, said Shete earned his personal support because of his character, humility, loyalty and understanding of public service, qualities he described as important for anyone seeking to represent the people.

According to Bibire, Shete’s calm disposition and willingness to listen have remained some of the qualities he respects in him, adding that such qualities are needed in a lawmaker who must listen to the people before taking decisions on their behalf.

Bibire said, “There are some qualities I look for in anybody I want to support politically, and Shete has many of them, especially humility, respect for people and the willingness to listen, and these are qualities I have seen in him for years.”

He added that Shete’s experience working with Governor Seyi Makinde as Special Adviser on Housing had given him a good understanding of government and the needs of the people, adding that he had acquitted himself well in that capacity.

According to him, Shete had been part of an administration where people were expected to work, deliver results and remain accountable to the people, adding that such experience would be useful in the State House of Assembly.

The Special Adviser on Security assured the crowd that Shete would give the constituency proper representation and work to bring the benefits of government closer to them.

He therefore charged them to propagate the gospel of Shete’s candidacy to every nook and cranny of Ibadan Southwest Constituency II, leave no stone unturned in their mobilization drive, and work assiduously to secure victory for him at their respective polling units.

Responding, Shete thanked Bibire for the confidence and support, saying he would not take the endorsement for granted.

Shete said the three main responsibilities of a lawmaker would remain his guide, promising to represent the people well, make laws that serve their interests and properly monitor government activities so that the people get the benefits meant for them.

He said, “I will not take this confidence for granted, and I will work hard to justify it by giving the people effective representation, making good laws and using my oversight responsibility to ensure that government programmes and projects get to the people.”

A supporter of Bibire described the endorsement as a well deserved recognition, noting that Shete had built bridges across the constituency, earned the trust of the people, and proved that he understands the yearnings and expectations of the electorate.

He said, “Shete is not coming to learn the basics of government from zero; he has worked in government, he understands the system and he knows the people, so I believe he will do well in the Assembly.”

Another Bibire supporter said the endorsement had given Shete a strong platform going into the election, particularly because of the grassroots structure behind Bibire.

He said, “When Bibire gives you his word, his people listen, and what you are seeing here today is only one part of the structure, so Shete should know that a lot of work will now be done for him across the constituency.”

A party member who came with Shete to the meeting conveyed appreciation for the reception given to the candidate, saying the endorsement would bring together people who share the same interest in the progress of the constituency.

He said, “We came here with Shete, and we have seen the kind of support Bibire has built around himself, so we are happy to have him standing with our candidate, and we will take this message back to our people.”

Bibire also used the occasion to commend Governor Seyi Makinde for his giant strides in Oyo State, particularly in the areas of development, security, infrastructure and the welfare of the people, stressing that the Governor has continued to set the pace and prove his mettle as a leader whose wealth of experience and achievements can be taken to the national stage as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
