SA Security Bibire Reiterates Governor Makinde’s Commitment To Security, Devises Safety Measures At Ibadan Northwest Security Summit

The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, has reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde to the protection of lives and property in Oyo State, assuring residents that the government will continue to take practical steps to strengthen security and maintain peace across the State.
Bibire stated this on Wednesday while speaking at a Stakeholders Security Summit organized by the leadership of Ibadan North West Local Government, where government officials, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, artisans, market leaders, farmers, transport unions, student representatives, youth groups, women groups, professional bodies, OPC, ACOMORAN, PMS, civil society organizations and other stakeholders gathered to discuss security concerns and the way forward.
Speaking on recent developments in the State, Bibire referenced Governor Makinde’s reassurance to residents following public concerns over the abduction of students and teachers, noting that the Governor had made it clear that the government remains fully committed to securing their safe return and that security agencies at all levels are working round the clock towards that objective.
He stated that while many residents desire regular updates on ongoing operations, certain security matters require caution because premature disclosures can affect ongoing efforts and compromise operational success.
Bibire said Governor Makinde has continued to demonstrate leadership in difficult moments by remaining focused on solutions, supporting security agencies and providing the necessary backing required to confront emerging threats across the State.
According to him, security challenges remain a concern across different parts of the country and the answer lies in more advanced strategic partnership among government institutions, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and residents.
He noted that the State Government has continued to invest heavily in security through logistics support, operational vehicles, communication equipment, intelligence gathering structures, Amotekun operations and other interventions designed to improve response capacity.
The security expert also urged residents to make greater use of the toll free emergency number 615 whenever they observe suspicious movements, criminal activities or situations capable of threatening public safety.
He explained that timely information remains one of the most effective weapons against crime, stressing that security agencies can only act on information available to them.
Bibire also warned against raising false alarms or circulating unverified security information, noting that such actions only inject oxygen to fear, disrupt normal activities and distract security operatives from actual assignments.
He therefore advised residents to verify information before sharing it and to channel security concerns through the appropriate authorities rather than social media speculation and rumours.
Speaking on practical measures for safer communities, the Oyo Security Adviser called for improved collaboration among all security agencies operating within Oyo State, adding that stronger information sharing and joint operations remain important in dealing with modern security challenges.
He also stressed the need for closer cooperation between Local Governments and the State Government, noting that security management produces better results when all levels of government work together with a common purpose.
He furthered that every community should develop effective communication channels through which residents can quickly alert one another and security agencies whenever suspicious activities are noticed.
Other heads of security formations who addressed participants at the summit also offered practical suggestions on how communities can play a leading role in preventing crime and supporting security efforts.
The security chiefs advised community leaders and residents to carry out proper background checks before accommodating unfamiliar persons within their neighbourhoods, especially in situations where little or nothing is known about their identities or activities.
They further urged churches, mosques and other faith based organizations to exercise due diligence when dealing with individuals seeking accommodation, assistance or integration into their communities.
The security officers also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and maintain close contact with community leaders and security agencies, stressing that early information prevents security incidents from escalating.
The eye-opening security summit concluded with an address by the Chairman of Ibadan North West Local Government, who restated his administration’s resolve to support the ongoing efforts of the Oyo State Government and security agencies in sustaining peace, protecting lives, and ensuring that every part of the local government and by extension the state remains safe for residents, businesses and investors.
