Hunger, Insecurity Won’t Stop Tinubu’s 2027 Victory — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that concerns over hunger and insecurity will not prevent Nigerians from re-electing President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike stated this on Wednesday during a media parley with selected journalists, arguing that political realities and voters’ dependence on leaders would influence electoral decisions.

The former Rivers State governor acknowledged that hunger and insecurity would remain major issues in Nigerian elections but urged critics to consider the practical factors that shape voters’ choices.

“There is no election in Nigeria where the issue of hunger and insecurity won’t come up,” Wike said.

He argued that many Nigerians rely on political leaders for support at the family, community, local government and ward levels, making political decisions different from those in countries where citizens are more economically independent.

Wike said critics should assess Nigerian politics based on the realities on the ground rather than relying only on theoretical assumptions.

He recalled that similar concerns about insecurity and hardship existed during elections under former President Muhammadu Buhari, yet elections were still conducted and won by candidates.
