ADC Slams Wike Over Amaechi Defeat Prediction

The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed the claim by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that Rotimi Amaechi, the party’s vice presidential candidate, would be defeated in the 2027 election.

The party said elections are not won through boasts, intimidation or political declarations, insisting that Rivers residents would decide their choice through the ballot while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would announce the outcome.

In a statement issued on Monday in Port Harcourt, ADC Chairman in Rivers State, Dr Chukwudi Dimkpa, described Wike’s prediction that Amaechi would be defeated by 12 noon on election day as a revelation of the minister’s mindset.

“Elections are not won by boasts, intimidation or political strongmen announcing results in advance. Rivers people will vote, the votes will be counted, and INEC, not Wike, will declare the winner,” Dimkpa said.

The ADC chairman also criticised Wike’s decision to hold a political reception in Omagwa on Saturday, the same day Amaechi was burying his mother, describing the action as insensitive and provocative.

He alleged that the event obstructed movement along the route to Ubima, where people had gathered to pay their respects to the late mother of the former Rivers governor.

Dimkpa said the party chose not to respond immediately because its focus was on ensuring a befitting burial for Amaechi’s mother, adding that political differences should not override respect for personal moments.

He urged Rivers residents not to be intimidated by any politician and to make their choice based on credible leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike had earlier told supporters at a civic reception organised by the City Boy Movement in Omagwa that candidates backed by the Rainbow Coalition would win the 2027 elections.
