My Record Shows I Can Improve Nigeria — Obi

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 election, has said his performance as Anambra State governor demonstrates his ability to transform Nigeria if elected president.

Obi made the statement after his former running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, argued that none of the politicians challenging President Bola Tinubu in 2027, including Obi, could improve the country.

Speaking in an interview previewed by Arise Television on Monday, Obi said he would restore order in governance, reduce the cost of administration and tackle corruption if given the opportunity to lead Nigeria.

“I passed through Anambra State, and I improved the state in critical areas of development. And I can do the same thing in Nigeria,” Obi said.

He promised to focus on reducing government waste, strengthening institutions, ensuring credible elections and improving security.

“I will fight corruption; I will deal with issues of waste, law and order, and rigging won’t take place under my watch; political parties will function, and things will be done properly,” he said.

Obi added that his administration would prioritise national unity, security, healthcare, education and poverty reduction.

Baba-Ahmed, who was Obi’s running mate on the Labour Party platform during the 2023 presidential election, had advised Tinubu to prepare to leave office, while arguing that opposition candidates would not improve Nigeria.

When asked whether his comments included Obi, Baba-Ahmed responded, “Including Peter Obi, I’m sorry to say.”
