Reps Amend Electoral Act, Designate Court of Appeal as Final Arbiter for Pre-Election Disputes

The House of Representatives has amended the Electoral Act 2026, granting the Court of Appeal the authority to serve as the final arbiter for pre-election disputes related to state houses of assembly, the national assembly, and governorship elections.

The lower legislative chamber has also empowered the Court of Appeal to hear pre-election matters concerning presidential elections as a court of first instance, with any appeals directed to the Supreme Court.

The amendment is designed to streamline the judicial process for resolving electoral disputes, and to ensure quicker and more definitive resolutions.
