Police Ban POS Operators

The Nigeria Police Force has banned all POS operators from working within 200 metres of police stations and other police formations.
The move follows reports that some operators were involved in extortion alongside police officers.
The Inspector-General of Police issued the order in an internal message sent to all police formations.
Authorities said the presence of POS operators near stations threatens ongoing reforms in the police force.
The message highlighted cases of operators helping officers collect money from civilians illegally.
The police said such practices reduce public trust and undermine transparency and accountability.
No POS operator is now allowed to conduct transactions close to any police formation in the country.
Police commanders at all levels are responsible for enforcing the order and will face consequences if it is violated.
Complaints suggest that some civilians were forced to withdraw cash or make instant transfers through POS machines near police stations.
Human rights and anti-corruption groups have condemned the practice as an abuse of power.
The police said the directive is meant to protect citizens and restore confidence in law enforcement.
