Messi Leads Inter Miami to First Win at Nu Stadium

Lionel Messi inspired Inter Miami to their first victory at the new Nu Stadium on Sunday, defeating the Portland Timbers 2-0.
The 38-year-old Argentine superstar dazzled throughout the match, reminding fans of his enduring threat ahead of the World Cup starting in less than a month.
Messi opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, finishing a slick team move.
He received the ball after a through pass from Luis Suarez to Telasco Segovia, whose backheel returned the ball to Messi, who placed it into the far corner from close range.
Ten minutes later, Messi combined with Suarez again after Rodrigo De Paul advanced up the right flank.
Messi slalomed past four defenders before delivering the assist to German Berterame for a simple tap-in.
In the second half, Messi came close to adding more goals, curling a left-foot shot just wide from outside the box.
He nearly scored with a late free kick, only to be denied by a superb save from goalkeeper James Pantemis.
The victory ended Inter Miami’s struggles at home, where they had previously drawn three matches and lost 4-3 to Orlando City after leading 3-0.
The win sends Inter Miami to the top of the Eastern Conference, one point ahead of Nashville SC, who have two games in hand.
The Nu Stadium, opened last month, has a 27,000 capacity and hosted its fifth home game on Sunday.
Messi, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, is set to feature in his sixth World Cup when the tournament kicks off on June 11 across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The Argentine lifted the trophy with his national team in Qatar at the last edition, cementing his status as one of football’s greatest.
