BREAKING: Anambra Police Arrest Officer Who Threatened Citizens Filming Him

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested an officer who went viral after threatening to shoot anyone filming him while on duty.
The officer has been identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police Newton Isokpehi, attached to the Anambra State Command, according to a statement signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Ngozi Ezeabata on behalf of Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu.
Isokpehi sparked public outrage after a video surfaced showing him threatening to “clear everybody down” if anyone recorded him while performing his duties.
In the video, Isokpehi addressed the camera in Pidgin English, insisting even superior officers who sanctioned filming would face consequences for the citizens he vowed to harm.
The video spread quickly on X and Instagram before being deleted from his TikTok page, and Isokpehi later issued a second video apologizing and saying frustration prompted his earlier remarks.
The command moved swiftly after spotting the video, arresting Isokpehi and activating internal disciplinary proceedings against him.
Isokpehi has also been subjected to a drug test as part of the ongoing investigation to determine all circumstances surrounding the incident.
Commissioner Orutugu condemned the officer’s actions, saying they undermine public trust and violate the ethical standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined institution and will not tolerate misconduct, abuse of office, or incitement that would erode public confidence,” the statement read.
The command assured residents that the outcome of the disciplinary process would be made public and any officer found culpable would face appropriate sanctions under the law.
Officers were reminded to remain professional, emotionally balanced, and respectful while performing their duties, particularly in an era of constant public scrutiny.
Members of the public and civil society groups were commended for bringing the video to attention, with the command saying their intervention supports police accountability.
Residents were encouraged to continue reporting incidents or behaviors that undermine public peace, safety, and confidence in security agencies.
Social media reactions were mixed, with many praising the swift action while others warned this incident highlights deeper problems of police misconduct that must be addressed.
Polity Reporters will continue to monitor the disciplinary process and report updates on the case.
