Amaechi Pledges to Uphold Rule of Law

Former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, has pledged that enforcing the rule of law would be his top priority if he becomes Nigeria’s President.
Amaechi made the statement while criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress of undermining democratic principles and weakening opposition parties.
He said, “First thing I will do as President of Nigeria is enforce rule of law. There has to be order.”
The former minister also claimed that the current government was creating economic hardship as a tool to sway voters, arguing that temporary measures like distributing a bag of rice do not address long-term hunger.
He further questioned the APC’s commitment to democracy, alleging that the party manipulates state institutions to suppress opposition and maintain dominance.
“If APC is as strong as they claim, why are they not allowing opposition parties to thrive? Why are they influencing government institutions against the opposition? Why won’t they leave the rule of law?” Amaechi asked.
His remarks come amid heightened political tensions and ongoing debates over governance, economic challenges, and electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Polity Reporters will continue providing updates on Nigerian politics and the upcoming elections.
