Sallah: NRC Boosts Lagos-Ibadan Train Services

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a temporary increase in train services on the Lagos-Ibadan corridor ahead of the Sallah festivities.
In a statement issued on Saturday by NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the corporation explained that the adjustment, set for May 26, 2026, aims to handle the expected surge in passenger traffic during the festive period.
“The temporary adjustment is designed to accommodate the anticipated increase in passenger movement as many Nigerians travel to celebrate Sallah with family and loved ones,” the statement noted.
Under the revised schedule, the NRC will operate six train trips on the Lagos-Ibadan corridor on Tuesdays, up from the usual four.
Trains departing from Lagos are scheduled for 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m., and 4:00 p.m., while departures from Ibadan will be at 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m., and 4:30 p.m.
The management clarified that this arrangement is temporary and applies only for the Sallah travel period.
“Immediately after the celebration, the normal Tuesday timetable of four trips will resume,” the statement confirmed.
The NRC also announced a temporary adjustment to the recently introduced Thursday six-trip schedule, reducing it to four trips on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
“The regular six-trip Thursday schedule will resume the following week,” the statement added.
In addition, the Osun State Government will operate its annual free Sallah train service on the narrow-gauge corridor, transporting indigenes traveling to Osogbo for the festival.
The special train service will depart from Iddo Station, Lagos, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, with the return trip from Osogbo scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The NRC explained that the service, traditionally operated during festive periods, is sponsored by the Osun State Government through a paid partnership with the corporation.
“This initiative allows Osun indigenes to travel free of charge for Sallah, reflecting a partnership between the state government and the Nigerian Railway Corporation,” the statement said.
The NRC reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, efficient, and reliable rail services nationwide and wished Nigerians a peaceful and memorable Eid-el-Adha celebration.
