Eid-el-Kabir: FG Declares Wednesday, Thursday Public Holidays

The Federal Government has announced that Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, will be public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the declaration through a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, on Monday.
The announcement reflects the government’s respect for the faith and spiritual traditions of millions of Nigerian Muslims observing the festival alongside the global Islamic community.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora, describing Eid-el-Adha as a festival rooted in sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.
He urged Nigerians to use the holiday period for prayers and reflection, seeking divine guidance for the peace, security, and prosperity of the country.
The minister also encouraged citizens to embrace brotherhood, unity, and peaceful coexistence during the celebration.
The Federal Government ended by extending its best wishes to Muslims nationwide, praying they enjoy a blessed, peaceful, and joyous Eid-el-Adha.
