Eid-el-Kabir: Lagos Government Warns Against Selling Rams on Highways

The Lagos State Government has cautioned traders against selling rams and other livestock on highways, road medians, and public spaces during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
Kunle Adeshina, spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, said on Monday that Commissioner Wahab issued the warning at a media briefing in Alausa ahead of the festival.
The commissioner reminded residents that street trading remains illegal across the state, emphasizing that festivities should not compromise public safety or deface the environment.
Wahab also urged Muslims to properly dispose of waste by bagging it and placing it at designated points for collection by the Lagos Waste Management Authority.
He stressed that environmental responsibility and public health are essential for socio-economic wellbeing and sustainable urban living.
The commissioner warned that the government would not tolerate illegal sales of livestock on major roads, parks, gardens, or other public spaces.
He further cautioned against erecting illegal stalls, dumping refuse indiscriminately, or maintaining unsanitary surroundings, reiterating that enforcement measures would be applied firmly.
Wahab encouraged residents to celebrate in designated parks, gardens, and relaxation centres while avoiding activities that could harm the environment.
The ministry affirmed its commitment to ensuring a clean and safe environment throughout the festive period and beyond.
Recall that on Sunday, ram sales at Kara Market along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway caused severe traffic delays, leaving motorists stranded for several hours.
The traffic, which began building up on Saturday, worsened on Sunday as traders, buyers, and transporters struggled for access to the market.
