Islamic Cleric Alhaj Muhammad Maibarga Dies in Bandits’ Captivity in Kebbi State

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the death of prominent Islamic cleric Alhaj Muhammad Maibarga of the JIBWIS while in the hands of bandits in Koko-Besse Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Bashir Usman confirmed the development to journalists, stating that the command is aware of reports concerning the cleric’s deteriorating health and eventual death in captivity.
“We are aware of reports concerning the victim’s deteriorating condition and possible death in captivity,” Usman said.
He added that security operatives are intensifying efforts to verify the incident and rescue all remaining kidnapped victims from both Koko-Besse and Wasagu areas.
The kidnapping of the cleric was not publicly announced by the police until journalists made enquiries.
Maibarga was reportedly abducted alongside his friend, a former APC chairman of Koko-Besse Local Government Area.
A video purportedly released by the abductors showed the cleric in poor health before he succumbed in the bandits’ den.
Following the confirmation of his death, members of his community performed the “Ga,ib” funeral prayers, a special Islamic rite for a deceased Muslim whose body is not physically present.
