Senate to Review Oshiomhole’s Allegations on Natasha Suspension

The spokesperson of the Senate, Yemi Adaramodu, has said the upper legislative chamber will review recent comments made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole concerning the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central.
Adaramodu made the clarification during a telephone conversation with journalists on Tuesday, where he also dismissed claims that signatures were forged or improperly included in the committee report that recommended the senator’s suspension.
“That is not true. Signatures forged, over what?” he said.
Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North, had earlier alleged in an interview on AIT that some senators whose names appeared on the report did not actually sign the document recommending the suspension.
He specifically referenced Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Federal Capital Territory, claiming she told him she only signed the attendance register of the committee meeting and not the suspension report itself.
Adaramodu insisted that no senator had formally raised such complaints within the chamber, adding that any concerns should have been brought to the floor of the Senate rather than discussed privately.
“If Senator Kingibe had any issue with the process, she would have raised it on the floor of the Senate and not through private conversations,” he said.
He maintained that the allegations were unfounded, stressing that he personally participated in the Ethics and Public Petitions Committee proceedings on the matter.
“No senator can claim that his or her signature was forged in this chamber; that has never happened and cannot happen,” he added.
He further described senators as independent and mature lawmakers who would openly challenge any irregularities during plenary if such issues existed.
“We are mature men and women, and if there is any infraction, it is usually raised openly on the floor of the Senate without external prompting,” he said.
On whether disciplinary action would be taken against Oshiomhole over his comments, Adaramodu said the Senate would first examine the situation before taking any position.
“We will review any statements made and take a proper look at all comments, whether spontaneous or intentional, and appropriate action will follow,” he said.
He added that the matter would be thoroughly considered by the Senate leadership, with a formal position to be communicated in due course.
Adaramodu also noted that the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was debated openly during plenary and widely followed by the public.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 over allegations of gross misconduct and unruly behaviour following a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
