Dangote Refinery Denies Allegations of Fuel Export, Re-Import Scheme via Togo

Dangote Refinery has firmly dismissed reports alleging that it exports refined petroleum products to Togo and then brings them back into Nigeria through re-importation channels.
The company described the allegation as misleading and commercially illogical, stressing that its supply operations are structured under regulated distribution frameworks and binding contractual agreements that do not permit such practices.
Management explained that the refinery’s logistics model is designed to ensure efficient domestic supply within Nigeria while also supporting legitimate export commitments to approved international buyers, in line with regulatory approvals.
It further clarified that there is no operational or financial incentive for the refinery to engage in round-trip fuel movements through neighbouring countries, noting that such claims contradict standard petroleum trading practices and supply-chain economics.
The refinery also emphasized that all its products are distributed through approved channels involving licensed marketers and regulated off-takers, with oversight aimed at ensuring compliance with national petroleum regulations.
Reaffirming its position, the company urged the public to disregard the allegations, describing them as unfounded and capable of distorting public understanding of its operations, while reiterating its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s domestic refining capacity and energy security.
