OOUTH Resident Doctors Suspend 10-Day Warning Strike After Government Pledge on Allowance Payment

Resident doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, have suspended their ongoing 10-day warning strike following fresh assurances from the Ogun State Government over the payment of outstanding professional allowances.
The suspension was announced after a meeting between representatives of the doctors, top government officials including the Secretary to the State Government and the Head of Service, as well as leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association in the state.
The government reportedly assured that the outstanding professional allowance would be paid on or before July 31, 2026, a commitment that formed the basis for calling off the industrial action.
The doctors had embarked on the warning strike over issues bordering on delayed payment of revised allowances, unresolved welfare concerns, manpower shortages, and poor working conditions within the teaching hospital.
They also raised concerns about training-related funding delays and infrastructural challenges, including inadequate accommodation, security concerns within hospital premises, and poor welfare provisions for resident doctors.
Following deliberations and a review of the government’s assurances, the association resolved to suspend the strike and directed members to resume duty immediately while monitoring compliance with the agreement.
The doctors further warned that they would reconvene after the deadline to review the situation and determine the next line of action if the government fails to fulfil its commitments.
