Makinde Tightens Security Net In Iseyin, Warns Fulani Community Against Opening Doors To Insecurity

The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has further strengthened security measures in Iseyin with the issuance of a firm warning against any form of support for, or harbouring of, criminal elements seeking to undermine the prevailing peace in Oyo State.

Makinde, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro Bibire, said the State Government would continue to treat security as a matter of utmost importance and would spare no effort in protecting lives, property, and legitimate means of livelihood across the Pacesetter State.

He disclosed this yesterday (Wednesday) during a special security meeting convened by the Iseyin Local Government and attended by heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, and other critical stakeholders within the local government area.

The meeting followed growing security concerns arising from reports that some individuals within the Fulani community are allegedly providing information, shelter, and other forms of assistance to criminal elements operating within parts of the area, which serves as a strategic gateway within the Oke-Ogun zone and shares boundaries with considerable neighbouring local government areas.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Bibire said the government would not fold its arms while a few bad elements attempt to disrupt the peace that Oyo State has continued to enjoy through the collective efforts of Governor Seyi Makinde, security agencies, and law abiding residents.

“Governor Seyi Makinde has invested heavily in security because peace remains the foundation upon which every other aspect of development rests, and we will not allow anyone to destroy what the government and the people have worked hard to build over the years,” he said.

He continued that security should never be left to government and security agencies alone, hence, all residents must remain alert and cooperate with lawful authorities in the interest of their communities.

He said, “Every community must become the first line of defence against criminality because those who live within a community often know the people, movements, and activities around them, and such information can make the difference between preventing a crime and reacting after damage has already been done.”

Bibire also reiterated the importance of the existing 16-hour curfew and urged security agencies to sustain strict enforcement in line with government directives.

“Government expects full compliance with the curfew because it was introduced in the interest of public safety, and security agencies have been directed to ensure that nobody uses the cover of darkness or restricted hours to engage in activities that could threaten public peace,” he stated.

He assured that Governor Makinde remains fully committed to confronting security challenges head on and would continue to provide the leadership and support required to keep Oyo State safe.

His words, “His Excellency has made it clear that there will be no compromise when it comes to the security of our people, and every lawful step required to maintain peace and stability will continue to receive the full backing of government.”

Following the meeting, Bibire visited Fulani markets in Ado-Awaye and Kara in Iseyin, where he held separate engagements with community leaders and residents on the need to support ongoing security efforts and distance themselves from criminal activities.

He warned that anyone found directly or indirectly aiding criminal activities, harbouring suspects, supplying information to criminals, or frustrating security operations would face the full weight of the law.

“The government has no issue with any law abiding resident regardless of tribe, religion, or background, but anyone who chooses to support criminality should be prepared to answer for such actions because Oyo State will not provide safe haven for lawbreakers,” he said.

He urged members of the Fulani community to remain security conscious and become active partners in the ongoing efforts to preserve peace and security across the State.

He said, “You know your environment better than anyone else, and the information you provide can help security agencies prevent crime, save lives, and protect innocent people from harm.”

While enlightening residents on Executive Orders 001 and 002, Bibire explained, “Executive Orders 001 and 002 were introduced to support a more organised security structure across Oyo State, and every resident is expected to comply with the provisions because government will not tolerate actions that may undermine public safety and public order.”

He further reminded residents of the curfew currently in force and advised against any attempt to violate government directives.

According to him, “Those who choose to ignore lawful directives should understand that the consequences will be theirs to bear because government has a duty to protect law abiding citizens and maintain peace and order at all times.”

Bibire concluded by commending Governor Makinde for his ongoing investments in security and his determination to ensure that Oyo State remains one of the peaceful and safest states in the country.

“Governor Makinde, from the strengthening of the Amotekun Corps to the continuous support for conventional security agencies, the activation of the 615 emergency line, regular engagements with stakeholders, operational support, intelligence driven interventions, and recent policy measures, has continued to demonstrate through action that the security of lives and property remains a top priority of his administration,” he applauded.

He also lauded the Chairman of Iseyin Local Government for his proactive response to security concerns and his efforts in bringing together stakeholders to discuss practical solutions to emerging challenges within the area.

Before departing Iseyin, Bibire, alongside the Local Government Chairman, paid a brief courtesy visit to the Senatorial Candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Hon. Shina Peller, at his Iseyin residence where discussions centred on the security situation within the area and the need for continued cooperation among stakeholders in preserving the peace currently enjoyed in Oyo State.
