Rescued Oyo Pupils, Teachers Receiving Medical Care, To Reunite With Families Soon — Army

The Nigerian Army has confirmed that the rescued pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State are currently receiving medical attention and will soon be reunited with their families after spending weeks in captivity.

The Army disclosed that 44 victims, comprising school pupils and teachers, were successfully rescued during a coordinated operation carried out by security forces, bringing relief to families and residents who had been anxious since the abduction.

The victims were abducted on May 15, 2026, when armed criminals attacked schools in the Oriire Local Government Area, including Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Local Authority Primary School, and Community Grammar School, Esièle, taking away pupils and teachers.

The abduction triggered widespread concern across Oyo State and Nigeria, with parents, education stakeholders, and residents demanding urgent action from security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims.

The Nigerian Army, in a statement, said the rescued pupils and teachers were immediately taken to a safe location where they were receiving medical checks and necessary care to assess their physical and psychological condition after their prolonged stay in captivity.

The Army explained that the medical treatment was part of measures to ensure the victims regained their strength and received proper attention before being handed over to their families.

According to the military authorities, arrangements had commenced to reunite the victims with their loved ones after the completion of the required medical assessment and rehabilitation process.

The rescue operation was carried out through a joint effort involving troops of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, who worked together to locate and recover the victims from their abductors.

The development came days after increased pressure from residents and concerned Nigerians who had called on authorities to intensify efforts towards freeing the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The rescue has brought significant relief to the affected families, teachers, and the entire Oyo State education community, who had spent weeks hoping and praying for the safe return of their loved ones.
