Leadership Requires Courage, Tough Decisions, Not Just Being Nice — Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has said that effective leadership goes beyond being popular or seeking approval, stressing that leaders must have the courage to make difficult decisions in the interest of the people.

Shettima stated that leadership is not meant for individuals who only want to please everyone, but for those who are willing to take bold steps, confront challenges and make choices that may sometimes be unpopular.

The Vice President made the remarks while speaking on the demands of leadership, emphasising that governance requires firmness, sacrifice and the ability to make tough decisions when necessary.

According to him, history has shown that great leaders are often judged by their ability to address difficult situations rather than by their desire to remain popular.

Shettima noted that leaders must possess the courage to pursue reforms and policies that may not immediately receive public acceptance but are necessary for long-term progress.

He explained that leadership involves balancing public expectations with the responsibility of making decisions that protect the future and wellbeing of society.

The Vice President added that leaders must be prepared to face criticism while remaining focused on achieving their goals and delivering results for the people they serve.

He said the responsibility of leadership requires individuals who can withstand pressure, demonstrate vision and act decisively during challenging periods.

Shettima’s remarks come amid ongoing national conversations on governance, reforms and the responsibilities of political leaders in addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
