Oyo Police Rescue Five-Year-Old Girl Kidnapped in Lagelu, Arrest Two Suspects Over N10m Ransom Demand

The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a five-year-old girl, Fikayo Gbemiga, who was kidnapped from her residence in the Iyana Offa area of Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, while two suspects linked to the abduction have been arrested.

The police said the child was abducted on July 3, 2026, after the suspects allegedly gained unlawful access to her family’s residence and took her away before demanding a ransom of N10 million from her family.

The suspects arrested in connection with the crime were identified as Adegboye Seyi Sunday, 37, and Adegboye Elijah Adefemi, 25, who were described by the police as principal suspects in the kidnapping operation.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the rescue operation followed a sustained intelligence-led investigation carried out by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Oyo State Police Command.

The police spokesperson said investigators deployed technological tools and other intelligence-gathering methods to trace the suspects and identify their location after the kidnapping was reported.

The operation eventually led security operatives to the suspects’ hideout at the Mojoyin Molade area of Iwo Road, Ibadan, where the two suspects were arrested on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m.

During the operation, the kidnapped child was rescued unhurt at about 10:35 p.m. and taken to safety, according to the police.

Preliminary investigation by the command revealed that the suspects allegedly entered the victim’s residence, abducted the five-year-old girl and subsequently contacted the family with a N10 million ransom demand for her release.

The police said investigation is still ongoing as efforts have been intensified to arrest other members of the suspected kidnapping network and recover other evidence connected to the crime.

The Oyo State Police Command commended residents who provided useful information that assisted the investigation and assured members of the public that it would continue to strengthen efforts against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
