Spain become first nation to simultaneously hold men’s & women’s FIFA World Cup titles

Spain have achieved a historic milestone in football after becoming the first country in history to simultaneously hold both the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cup titles.
The remarkable feat was completed after the Spanish men’s national team won the 2026 FIFA World Cup, adding the men’s global crown to the women’s title won by the Spanish women’s team at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at the New York New Jersey Stadium to claim their second men’s World Cup trophy, with Ferran Torres scoring the decisive goal in extra time to seal victory.
The triumph marked another golden chapter for Spanish football, with the country now sitting at the summit of both men’s and women’s international football at the senior level.
The achievement follows Spain’s women’s team historic triumph at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where La Roja defeated England 1-0 in the final to secure their first ever senior women’s World Cup title.
Spain’s women’s victory in 2023 ended decades of waiting for a major global success and completed a remarkable rise for the women’s game in the country, after years of investment in youth development and domestic football structures.
The men’s team, meanwhile, returned to the top of world football after previously winning their first FIFA World Cup title in 2010, when they defeated the Netherlands 1-0 in the final in South Africa.
Under manager Luis de la Fuente, Spain produced another outstanding tournament campaign in 2026, combining their traditional possession-based style with attacking efficiency and defensive discipline.
The victory also extended Spain’s recent dominance in international football, following their success at Euro 2024 and their emergence as one of the strongest football nations in the world.
Spain’s historic double has drawn global attention because no other nation had previously managed to hold both senior FIFA World Cup trophies at the same time.
The achievement further highlights the strength of Spain’s football development system, which has produced world class players across both the men’s and women’s teams while maintaining success at different levels of competition.
For Spanish football supporters, the milestone represents a period of unprecedented success, with the country now recognized as the first nation to simultaneously reign as champions of both the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cups.
