Joshua Returns To Ring After Losing Two Close Friends

Former two time heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua is set to make his return to boxing against Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

This will occasion his first fight since the tragic deaths of two close friends.

Joshua’s comeback bout represents a major personal and professional moment for the British Nigerian boxer, who has been dealing with emotional challenges following the loss of people close to him.

The 36 year old fighter is expected to step back into the ring with a renewed focus as he begins another chapter of his career after a difficult period outside boxing.

Joshua has previously spoken about the impact of losing close friends and how such experiences have affected his mindset, motivation and approach to life beyond the sport.

The fight against Prenga will be Joshua’s first appearance since his defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024, where he lost by knockout while attempting to regain the IBF heavyweight title.

Following that setback, Joshua underwent surgery on an elbow injury and took time away from competition to recover physically and mentally before returning to training.

His opponent, Kristian Prenga, is an Albanian heavyweight boxer with an undefeated professional record, although Joshua enters the contest as the more experienced fighter with a decorated career that includes Olympic gold, multiple world titles and victories over some of the biggest names in the heavyweight division.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has described the comeback as part of a planned rebuilding process, with the boxer still targeting major heavyweight fights, including a long anticipated clash with Tyson Fury.

The Jeddah bout is expected to test Joshua’s readiness as he looks to prove that he remains a serious contender in the heavyweight division despite recent setbacks.

Joshua has maintained that his motivation extends beyond titles, saying his journey is also about personal growth, resilience and continuing to compete at the highest level.

The fight will be closely watched by boxing fans eager to see whether the former champion can return to winning ways and revive hopes of another world title challenge.
