ADC Accuses Tinubu Of ‘Win-At-All-Costs’ Politics Over Osun LG Funds

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu of adopting a “win-at-all-costs” approach to politics, warning that such a style could undermine Nigeria’s democracy and threaten national stability.
The opposition party made the allegation in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
The ADC claimed that the Federal Government was using state institutions to weaken opposition parties ahead of the Osun State governorship election.
The party specifically criticised the decision to freeze statutory allocations meant for local governments in Osun State, describing the move as political intimidation targeted at the state government.
According to the ADC, withholding the funds could affect the payment of workers’ salaries, the operation of primary healthcare centres, education services and other essential programmes that directly impact residents.
The party argued that President Tinubu’s political approach treats elections as a battle rather than a democratic contest, insisting that such a mindset should not exist in a constitutional democracy.
“No democracy worthy of the name deliberately sacrifices the welfare of innocent citizens in pursuit of partisan political ends. The salaries of workers, the operation of primary healthcare centres, the education of children, rural infrastructure and other essential public services have all been turned into bargaining chips in President Tinubu’s political contest,” the statement read.
The ADC further alleged that the action against Osun local governments was part of a broader attempt to destabilise the state, claiming that individuals linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) were occupying council areas despite not being elected.
It also accused opposition figures in the state of facing intimidation and alleged that suspected APC-linked supporters had harassed political opponents without adequate response from security agencies.
“Political opponents are not enemy combatants. Opposition-controlled states are not occupied territories. Public institutions do not belong to whichever party temporarily controls the federal government,” the party stated.
The opposition party called for the immediate release of statutory allocations belonging to Osun State local governments and urged the Federal Government to stop what it described as political interference in the state.
It maintained that residents of Osun State should be allowed to freely determine their leaders through a democratic process without pressure or intimidation.
“What the people of Osun deserve is the democratic right to freely choose who governs them. But right now, they have been placed under a siege. This has to stop,” the statement added.
