16-Year-Old Natasha’s Daughter Builds, Furnishes Orphanage in Kogi

Sixteen-year-old Nadia Zakaria, daughter of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has built and handed over a fully furnished orphanage home in Etahi Community, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The Oyiza-Salem Divine Orphanage Home was commissioned on Saturday in the presence of community members, religious leaders and children who gathered for the ceremony.
Nadia said the idea for the project started when she was 15, after she developed a desire to support children who lacked the opportunities and care many others enjoy.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Senator Natasha’s media aide, Sam Idoko, Nadia said the project was inspired by her reflection on the importance of providing a safe and loving environment for vulnerable children.
“At 15, I had never done anything like this. But I decided to try. With help from family, friends and even strangers, we raised enough to build the house and furnish every room,” she said.
She encouraged young people to take steps towards making a difference, noting that age and resources should not prevent anyone from helping others.
“You don’t have to be older, richer or more powerful to make a difference. You just have to care enough to start,” Nadia added.
Speaking at the event, Senator Natasha said she did not fund the project, explaining that her daughter raised the money independently.
“My daughter raised the money for this building herself. I did not contribute one kobo,” she said.
The senator added that Nadia was already planning another initiative to support pregnant women in Kogi Central.
Pastor Kisito Adomu Zuberu, founder of the orphanage, praised the teenager’s effort, recalling the difficult conditions the children experienced before the new facility was built.
“When they came last year, the children were sleeping on the ground. Today Miss Nadia has given us a fully equipped mansion,” he said.
Zuberu disclosed that the orphanage has continued to support the education and development of the children, with some already pursuing university education, vocational training and other skills.
The management and children of the orphanage thanked Nadia for the project, describing the facility as more than a building but a place that provides hope, dignity and a sense of belonging.
The initiative has been widely praised as a remarkable youth-led humanitarian project in Kogi State.
