BREAKING: Nafiu Bala Claims He Was Deceived into Attending ADC Handover Ceremony

In an exclusive interview with Africa Independent Television (AIT), Nafiu Bala, factional National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), revealed that he was misled into attending a key handover ceremony.

Bala stated that former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu invited him under false pretenses, expecting a routine party meeting.

However, the event turned out to be the unveiling of new leadership, with the interim National Working Committee led by former Senate President David Mark and ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola taking over the party’s leadership.

Bala pointed out that there was no formal vote or consensus on the leadership change during the meeting held on July 2, 2025, at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.

He insisted that the meeting was supposed to focus on adopting the ADC as a unified opposition platform, not appointing new executives.

As the Deputy National Chairman at the time, Bala argued that he should have automatically become the National Chairman following Nwosu’s resignation.

He rejected the legitimacy of the Mark-led leadership, stressing that coalition members are not necessarily ADC members, and the process lacked transparency.

Bala further clarified that his attendance and that of other state chairmen should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the leadership change.

He described the event as a setup rather than a legitimate democratic transition within the party.

The interview comes amid ongoing factional disputes, court cases, and petitions to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party is facing internal conflict as it heads into future elections.

Ralph Nwosu has denied Bala’s claims, asserting that Bala and the state chairmen were fully aware of and participated in the process.

Nwosu dismissed the existence of a legitimate faction led by Bala, calling his accusations externally influenced.
