BREAKING: 24 Children Abducted from Orphanage, Kogi Government Confirms

The Kogi State Government has officially confirmed the abduction of 24 children from an orphanage located within the state, heightening concerns over the state’s security situation.

The abduction occurred in the early hours of Sunday, April 26, 2026, when armed assailants attacked the orphanage, taking the children to an undisclosed location.

Kingsley Fanwo, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information, expressed his deep concern over the incident, calling it both “unfortunate and disturbing.”

He assured the public that security forces have been fully mobilized to ensure the safe return of the children.

“We strongly condemn the abduction of these innocent children from an orphanage. The government is collaborating with security agencies to bring them back safely,” Fanwo stated.

He also mentioned that efforts to locate the kidnappers are underway, reaffirming the government’s commitment to reuniting the children with their caregivers and families.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the abduction and announced that a coordinated security operation, involving several law enforcement agencies, has been initiated to rescue the children and capture the kidnappers.

This incident adds to the mounting fears over rising insecurity in various regions of Nigeria, especially attacks on vulnerable groups and institutions.
