BREAKING: Nigerian Army Seizes Over N250m Worth of Stolen Oil Products in Niger Delta Raid

Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division have made significant progress in the Niger Delta.

They apprehended nine suspects and dismantled several illegal refining operations between April 1 and April 26, 2026.

The operations were carried out in collaboration with various security agencies.

They resulted in the recovery of over 130,000 litres of stolen crude oil and more than 26,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

The Nigerian Army estimates the total value of the recovered products to exceed ₦250 million.

Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma confirmed the development in a statement released on Sunday.

During the operation, a major breakthrough occurred in Rivers State.

Troops intercepted an abandoned truck on the East-West Road in Ukpeye Community, Ahoada East Local Government Area.

The truck, registered KMC 310 ZV Kano, was found to be carrying 45,000 litres of stolen petroleum products.

Additionally, a raid in the Orashi National Forest in Ahoada West led to the discovery of a storage site containing over 35,000 litres of stolen crude oil.

Another illegal facility was uncovered, holding more than 26,000 litres of illegally refined AGO.

Siphoning equipment was destroyed on-site.

In Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, 266 sacks containing around 17,760 litres of stolen petroleum were confiscated.

In Abessa Forest, Ahoada West, four drum ovens and 50 sacks of over 3,000 litres of crude oil were destroyed.

Two waste pits used in the refining process were also dismantled.

Further recoveries were made in Abua/Odual LGA.

Thirty sacks holding over 1,500 litres of stolen crude oil were seized in Okolomade.

The operation extended beyond Rivers State into Delta State.

Troops discovered a tapping point in Obazogbe Community, Ethiope East LGA, containing over 2,700 litres of stolen oil.

In Akwa Ibom State’s Ikot Ekpene LGA, 45 bags of illegally refined AGO, approximately 1,350 litres, were recovered.

The Army confirmed ongoing operations in Bayelsa State aimed at curbing oil theft activities.

Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, General Officer Commanding the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, commended the troops for their hard work.

He encouraged them to maintain their efforts against the region’s economic saboteurs.
