Edo State Government Rejects Aide’s Threatening Remarks Against Opposition

The Edo State Government has formally distanced itself from controversial statements made by Emmanuel Eghogho, known as “Egogo,” a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Eghogho had been filmed in a viral video allegedly warning that opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), would face difficulties campaigning in the state.

He also suggested that opposition members could face arrest if they engaged in election activities.

In response, Kassim Afegbua, the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, stated that these remarks do not represent the stance of the state government or Governor Okpebholo.

Afegbua made it clear that the Edo administration does not support political intimidation, noting that such comments were personal opinions not backed by any government policy.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the state’s commitment to democratic values, inclusive governance, and peaceful political engagement as the 2027 general elections approach.

“We completely disown that statement. It does not represent the position of government,” Afegbua asserted.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command issued a statement distancing itself from Eghogho’s comments, stressing that the Commissioner of Police did not endorse or align with the threats made in the video.
