BREAKING: Supreme Court to Deliver Judgments in ADC, PDP Appeals Thursday

The Supreme Court of Nigeria will deliver judgments in two high-profile political appeals on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
These appeals involve leadership crises within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The cases have been added to the Supreme Court’s cause list for Thursday, according to information from the official court website.
The ADC case, marked SC/CV/180/2026, is scheduled for a 2 pm judgment.
The time for the PDP case has not been confirmed.
These rulings come amid growing political tension as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.
The ADC dispute centers around a prolonged leadership crisis between former Senate President David Mark and a rival faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe.
Mark is challenging a March 12 decision by the Court of Appeal that instructed parties to maintain the status quo in the leadership battle.
He claims that the appellate court overstepped its authority, arguing that the dispute is an internal matter that should not involve judicial intervention.
The case was heard on April 22 by a five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba, who then reserved judgment.
In a bid to expedite the case, the ADC’s legal team wrote to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, requesting that judgment be delivered within three days.
In the April 28 letter, S.E. Aruwa (SAN) & Co. warned that a delay could jeopardize the party’s participation in the 2027 elections.
The lawyers highlighted that the appeal had been heard quickly on April 22, 2026, and that the judgment was still pending.
They expressed concerns about actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging that the commission had used a lower court ruling to “remove or de-recognize the leadership” of the ADC.
Despite this, the ADC remains a recognized political party in Nigeria, though it currently lacks leadership.
The urgency of the appeal stems from the electoral timetable already set by INEC, which affects the party’s ability to meet statutory requirements for the 2027 elections.
The ADC’s participation in the elections depends on the timely delivery of the judgment, according to the legal team.
The lawyers warned that delays could result in the party being excluded from the polls, disenfranchising millions of its supporters.
“Justice delayed, in this particular circumstance, would amount to justice denied,” they said.
They emphasized that the future of the ADC and its supporters hinges on the court’s decision.
