Presidency Labels Peter Obi “Political Nomad” Following Exit from ADC

The Nigerian Presidency has sharply criticized Peter Obi’s decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling it another example of his opportunistic politics.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, dismissed Obi’s reasons for exiting the party as “puerile” and “illogical musings” presented in a “self-serving letter to his mob.”

“We told you so. The political nomad is on the move again,” Onanuga wrote, accusing Obi of being “a politician made of jelly” who avoids difficult contests.

He claimed Obi was unable to compete with Atiku or Amaechi for the ADC ticket and instead “pursues the easy road,” which will lead to another defeat in 2027.

Onanuga also accused Obi of constantly blaming the government without reflecting on his own actions, welcoming him back into the 2027 presidential race while reiterating past criticisms of his political approach.

Obi’s exit statement earlier cited the toxic political environment, internal ADC divisions influenced by external forces, and ongoing court cases as the reasons for his departure.

He affirmed that his focus remains on national service, stating, “I am not desperate to be President, but desperate for a better Nigeria.”
