Four NYSC Members, Soldier Burnt to Death

Four National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and a soldier have died in a road accident along the Yola–Mubi road in Adamawa State.

The crash occurred on Wednesday around 1:50 p.m. in the Narehi area of Girei/Song Local Government Area.

The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, with spokesman SP Suleiman Nguroje providing details.

“The tragic accident involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus carrying five passengers from Yola to Mubi,” he said.

Preliminary reports indicate that the two vehicles collided head-on, causing the commercial bus to overturn and catch fire.

All five passengers on the bus were reportedly burnt to death.

Early identification shows that four of the deceased were NYSC members serving in Adamawa State.

The confirmed NYSC victims are Suleiman Juliet, a female, and Usman Shuaibu, a male, both from Kaduna State, while the identities of the other two corps members are yet to be established.

The police also confirmed that a soldier riding in the military vehicle died in the accident.

Emergency responders and police operatives evacuated the victims’ remains to a specialist hospital in Yola.

Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, as well as to the Nigerian Armed Forces and the NYSC.
