Family of Late General Rabe Abubakar Demands Explanation Over Recovery of His Body From Bandits

The family of the late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has called on the Katsina State Government to explain the circumstances under which his body was recovered from bandits, insisting that only the authorities can clarify how the corpse was retrieved while his wife remains in captivity.

His son, Ishaka Rabe Abubakar, made the remarks in an interview with DW Hausa, while also dismissing reports that his mother had been released, maintaining that she is still being held by the abductors.

“Our mother has not been released, and anyone saying otherwise is not telling the truth, as she is still in their custody,” he said.

He explained that the family became confused after the announcement of funeral arrangements, saying questions arose about how the body was recovered and returned for burial.

“People kept asking how the corpse was brought back for burial, and I honestly do not have an answer, so the government should be asked because even I want to know how it was recovered,” he said.

The bereaved son introduced himself as the child of the late military officer and said the family has accepted his death as the will of God while praying for his forgiveness and mercy.

“We believe he died as a martyr, and we are trusting Allah to grant him mercy and eternal reward,” he said.

He described his father as a humble, religious and peace-loving man who lived an exemplary life and was widely respected by those who knew him.

He also addressed conflicting reports about the cause of death, rejecting claims of diabetes-related complications and suggesting instead that a snakebite may have been responsible based on visible signs observed on the body.

“The condition we saw suggests it may have been a snakebite rather than diabetes, although only Allah knows the true cause of death,” he said.

Ishaka further reiterated that his mother remains in captivity, stressing that any claims of her release are false and misleading.

“As I speak, she is still with them, and anyone saying she has been freed is lying,” he said.

He added that while the family is not directly accusing the state government of wrongdoing, they expect clarification on issues surrounding the recovery of the body, noting that leadership carries responsibility for citizens’ welfare and security.

He concluded by appealing for continued prayers and support, saying the family is still awaiting the release of his mother while mourning the loss of their father.
