Orire Abduction: Oyo Police Deny Arrest of Pastor

The Oyo State Police Command has debunked reports alleging that a pastor was arrested for supplying arms and ammunition to suspects involved in the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

The Command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, described the reports circulating on social media and some media platforms as false, misleading and unfounded.

It explained that the viral Facebook post which triggered the claim alleged that a pastor was arrested for acting as a gunrunner for the abductors but failed to provide the name or address of the supposed cleric.

The police clarified that no such arrest had been made by the Command or any other security agency involved in the ongoing rescue operation, stressing that investigations are still ongoing.

According to the statement, the Command said the publication was a deliberate attempt to distract security operatives from rescue efforts and undermine public confidence in ongoing operations.

The police urged members of the public to disregard the report and rely only on official updates from verified communication channels of the Oyo State Police Command.

It also warned that individuals and platforms spreading false information would be investigated and prosecuted if found culpable of undermining security operations or public confidence.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted victims and maintaining public safety across the state.
