NDC Kicks Off Nationwide Congresses Ahead of May 9 National Convention

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has begun its maiden congresses across the nation ahead of its first national convention scheduled for May 9, 2026.
Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, confirmed this development in a statement detailing the activities taking place nationwide.
Ward and polling unit congresses are set for May 1 and 2, while local government congresses are slated for May 4.
These congresses will culminate in the party’s inaugural National Convention in Abuja on May 9, 2026, where key decisions and leadership structures will be finalized.
Abdulsalam added, “The ongoing congresses are preparing us for the National Convention, which will take place in Abuja on May 9, 2026.
“All preparations have been completed by the planning committee, and we are ready for the event, with accredited party members and relevant INEC officials set to observe the process.”
Security agencies have been alerted to ensure adequate protection for party members, officials, and guests during the convention.
The NDC leadership expressed enough confidence in its state and national officers to ensure the congresses are conducted according to the party’s constitution and established guidelines.
