9PM: Oyo Police Dismiss Curfew Rumours

The Oyo State Police Command on Saturday reassured residents that there is currently no curfew or restriction on movement within or outside Ibadan, dismissing circulating rumours of such measures.
Police Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade stated in a release from Ibadan that there are no security concerns necessitating panic, and that adequate measures have been put in place to safeguard citizens across the state.
Polity Reporters reports that some residents, reacting to the false curfew claims, hurriedly closed shops and other businesses from 8 p.m. despite the lack of any official directive.
The warnings come after coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, last Friday around 9:30 a.m., which involved the abduction of teachers and students.
In the statement, the police clarified that the command is fully operational, with officers strategically deployed across the state to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
The command also cautioned individuals and groups against spreading false information or unverified reports that could create unnecessary panic, fear, or distress, warning that offenders will face legal consequences.
Residents were urged to disregard misleading reports and continue their activities without fear, while being vigilant, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies to maintain public order.
The police further assured that any official security directive or emergency measure would be communicated through the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer via verified conventional and digital media channels.
