Eid-el-Kabir: SA Security Bibire Urges Security Consciousness, Calls for Modest Celebration Across Oyo State

The Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Abayomi Fagbenro (Bibire), has urged Muslim faithful across Oyo State to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir in a peaceful and restrained manner, and called on all residents to remain security conscious, noting that safety must never be compromised in the pursuit of festivity.

Fagbenro, in a statement made available to newsmen, said the appeal has become necessary in view of the heightened movement of persons and activities that usually accompany festive periods, stressing that residents must not lose sight of personal and collective safety while celebrating.

He said residents must avoid unnecessary risks, remain alert in their surroundings, and take simple precautions that could prevent avoidable security challenges during the celebration period.

According to him, “peace in any society is not sustained by security agencies alone, but also by the conduct and vigilance of all and sundry.”

He said, “As we approach the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, I want to sincerely appeal to our Muslim faithful and all residents of Oyo State to remain security conscious, celebrate within reasonable limits, and avoid exposing themselves or their communities to situations that could be exploited by criminal elements.”

The security expert noted that festive seasons, while joyful, often come with increased public gatherings and movement, which require extra caution, especially in transport hubs, markets, worship centres, recreational areas, and other public spaces.

He added that residents should avoid panic-driven reactions and instead report suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate security channels for prompt action.

“People should celebrate with joy, but it is equally important to do so with utmost caution. We must not give room for carelessness, because even a moment of negligence can create avoidable problems,” he stated.

The retired United States Navy veteran advised residents to be particularly conscious in crowded places such as prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, and entertainment spots.

“People should not allow the excitement of the season to lower their guard. We have seen in the past how moments like this can be exploited by bad elements, so vigilance is very important even as we celebrate,” Fagbenro stated.

He also urged parents and guardians to pay closer attention to children and young persons during the period, especially in public gatherings, to prevent cases of missing persons or avoidable accidents.

He cautioned against reckless driving, unnecessary night movements, and careless display of valuables, adding that restraint remains sine quo non to a safe and peaceful celebration.

“Moderation is important. We can celebrate well without excesses, and we can enjoy the season while still protecting ourselves and those around us,” he added.

He reaffirmed that Governor Seyi Makinde remains firmly committed to the security and welfare of the good people of Oyo State and will continue to deploy every necessary measure towards protecting lives and maintaining peace across all parts of the state.

Fagbenro concluded by wishing residents a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration and urged everyone to play their part in keeping Oyo State safe before, during, and after the festivities.
