Teachers Protest in Ibadan Over Orire Abduction

Members of the National Union of Teachers in Oyo State staged a protest in Ibadan on Friday demanding urgent action over the recent abduction of students and teachers in Orire Local Government Area.

The protest follows the May 15 incident in Esiele community, where armed assailants reportedly kidnapped more than 40 students and educators from local schools.

Disturbing videos allegedly showing the victims being mistreated in captivity have circulated online, fueling outrage among teachers, parents, and the public.

Teachers from primary and secondary schools across Oyo State took to the streets nearly three weeks after the incident to call for swift government and security intervention.

The demonstrators marched along the Iwo Road axis of Ibadan, chanting solidarity messages and carrying placards demanding the immediate release of the kidnapped victims.

Protesters shouted slogans such as “Bring back our children” and “No more bandits,” signaling widespread frustration over recurring attacks on schools.

The demonstration shows growing concerns over insecurity and the vulnerability of schools in rural and semi-urban communities across Nigeria.

The incident has intensified calls for stronger security measures, including better protection for schools and faster response to abduction cases.
