SA Security Bibire Lauds Governor Makinde For Improved Safety In Oyo State, Harps On 615

The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for the deliberate investments and practical measures put in place since 2019 to strengthen security across Oyo State and create a conducive environment where residents, businesses, and investors can go about their lawful activities without fear.

Bibire stated this while speaking at the Oyo Federal Constituency Security Stakeholders Roundtable jointly organized by the three members of the Oyo State House of Assembly that constitute Oyo Federal Constituency, namely Hon. Rahman Olorunpoto, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola and Hon. Oladeji Oparinde, in collaboration with the Oyo Premier Club.

The summit, which had as its theme, “Building A United Front To Fight Crime In Oyo Federal Constituency”, brought together critical stakeholders to deliberate on practical solutions to emerging security concerns and ways of strengthening cooperation between residents and security agencies.

Speaking at the security summit, Bibire said Governor Makinde has continued to demonstrate strong leadership in the area of security through policies, operational support, and sustained collaboration with security agencies operating within the State.

He noted that the recent Executive Order 001 on the regulation and registration of private security and related security outfits, as well as Executive Order 002 directed at strengthening security management and addressing emerging threats, are clear indications of the Governor’s readiness to stay ahead of criminal elements.

According to him, the administration has over the years provided operational vehicles, communication equipment, logistics support, and other critical resources to security agencies to enhance their effectiveness and improve their capacity to respond to security challenges.

He added that the support being enjoyed by security agencies under the present administration has contributed significantly to intelligence gathering, crime prevention, emergency response, and the maintenance of law and order across the State.

This was as he commended the Police, Amotekun Corps, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Operation Burst, Federal Road Safety Corps, Immigration Service, Customs Service, Correctional Service, and other security formations for their sacrifice, professionalism, and commitment to protecting lives and property.

Bibire said the cordial relationship between the State Government and security agencies has continued to produce positive results, assuring that the administration would maintain its support and continue to provide the enabling environment needed for them to perform effectively.

He urged residents to remain security conscious and make effective use of the toll free emergency number 615 whenever they observe suspicious movements or activities within their communities.

He said security agencies can only act on information available to them, stressing that timely reporting remains one of the most effective tools in preventing crime and protecting lives.

Bibire assured residents that there is no reason to fear when reporting criminal activities, noting that information provided through the appropriate channels is treated with the seriousness and confidentiality it deserves.

He warned against keeping silent in the face of security threats, explaining that failure to report suspicious activities often gives criminal elements the opportunity to operate unchecked.

According to him, the principle of “See Something, Say Something” remains one of the strongest contributions the good people of Oyo State can make towards securing their communities and supporting ongoing security efforts.

The Governor’s adviser also cautioned against the spread of false information and unverified security reports, saying such actions create unnecessary panic, cause confusion, and can hinder ongoing operations by security agencies.

He urged residents to ensure that information relayed with security agencies is factual and based on what has been observed or reasonably confirmed.

Speaking on the recent abduction of students and teachers, Bibire reassured residents that Governor Makinde remains fully committed to securing their safe return and has continued to work closely with security agencies to achieve that objective.

He stated that the government is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to secure the release of the victims, adding that details of ongoing operations may not always be made public because of the sensitive nature of rescue efforts and intelligence driven engagements.

Several security officers who represented their respective agencies at the roundtable commended Governor Makinde for his support and for creating an atmosphere that enables security personnel to carry out their duties more effectively.

The stakeholders present at the summit included government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, market associations, transport unions, youth groups, women organizations, professional bodies, security agencies, civil society groups, media practitioners, and other concerned residents of Oyo Federal Constituency.

The summit concluded with a collective resolve to intensify public awareness on security matters, strengthen cooperation between communities and security agencies, and develop practical measures that will help prevent a recurrence of incidents such as the recent unfortunate development in Orire Local Government Area.
