Makinde, Fayemi, Oyinlola Visit Obasanjo As 2027 Political Talks Gather Pace

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi and former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola have visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, amid growing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general election.

The meeting, which took place at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, was disclosed by Governor Makinde through photographs shared on his verified social media platforms.

Makinde said the discussions centred on important national issues and matters relating to the forthcoming general election, although he did not disclose specific details of the conversation held behind closed doors.

The visit has attracted political attention because of the timing, coming as major political actors intensify consultations and alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Makinde, who has indicated interest in the 2027 presidential race, met with Obasanjo alongside Fayemi and Oyinlola, two former governors with extensive experience in national politics and public administration.

The presence of leaders from different political backgrounds at the meeting has further fuelled discussions about possible collaborations and broader conversations around the direction of Nigeria’s political future.

Obasanjo, who served as Nigeria’s president from 1999 to 2007, remains an influential figure whose engagements with political leaders often attract attention during major election cycles.

The meeting comes shortly after a series of high profile visits involving political figures seeking consultations with the former president ahead of the next general election.

However, neither Makinde nor the other attendees disclosed whether the discussions were linked to endorsements, party arrangements or specific political strategies ahead of 2027.

The development has added another layer to ongoing political permutations as parties and influential figures begin positioning themselves for the battle ahead.
