NRS Boss, Adedeji Defends Tinubu’s Lifestyle, Says President Not Extravagant

The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has dismissed concerns over the lifestyle of public officials, insisting that President Bola Tinubu does not live an extravagant life despite occupying the nation’s highest office.

Adedeji made the remarks during an interview with journalist Seun Okinbaloye, where he responded to questions on the lifestyles of political office holders amid the economic challenges facing Nigerians.

Addressing reports about the President’s movements and alleged use of luxury vehicles, Adedeji said Tinubu lives a modest lifestyle and often walks from his residence to his office, only using vehicles for specific movements such as trips to the airport.

He also claimed that the President eats once daily and has not travelled outside Nigeria in the last three months.

“Mr President goes from home to office on foot, not even driving except when he is going to the airport. I don’t know where you see the convoy,” Adedeji said.

Responding to questions about the number of Cadillac Escalades reportedly attached to the presidential convoy, the NRS chairman argued that the President was capable of affording such vehicles.

“How much is an Escalade that the President of Nigeria cannot afford? Please don’t embarrass this country,” he said.

Adedeji further questioned what should be considered a lavish lifestyle, stating that Tinubu spends his time working and attending to official duties rather than engaging in frequent social activities.

“So what is living large? In the last months, he has not even left the shores of this country, trekking and working. If you go there now, you will see him review one document or the other,” he added.

He also said the President’s personal habits and limited public appearances showed that he was focused on his responsibilities rather than personal luxury.
