Oyo Govt Inspects CCTV Surveillance Network, Moves To Strengthen Security Monitoring Across State

The Oyo State Government has carried out an extensive inspection of security surveillance facilities across major locations in Ibadan as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety and improve crime prevention through technology driven monitoring systems.

The exercise was conducted yesterday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Mr. Abayomi Fagbenro (Bibire), whose team visited strategic locations including Mokola, Mapo, Molete, Challenge, Oke Ado, and other critical points where Closed Circuit Television cameras have been installed for security purposes.

Speaking during the inspection, Bibire said the inspection was part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to ensuring that all security infrastructure put in place by the State Government continues to serve its purpose effectively.

“Governor Seyi Makinde remains committed to building a security system that is proactive, responsive and armed to address emerging threats before they escalate, which is why this administration continues to invest in structures that support intelligence gathering and public safety,” he said.

The Special Adviser explained that the objective of the exercise is to help the government assess the condition of existing facilities and identify areas that require attention.

Bibire stated, “The purpose of this inspection is to evaluate the operational status of existing surveillance facilities, identify areas requiring maintenance, and ensure that every component of the system is functioning at the level expected of a modern security architecture.”

He further noted that the State Government is also looking beyond the existing installations with a view to expanding surveillance coverage across more strategic locations.

His words, “We are also examining areas where additional cameras may be required so that we can widen coverage, eliminate blind spots that may be exploited by criminal elements, and strengthen our ability to monitor activities across strategic locations.”

The retired US Navy veteran said the administration considers security as a continuous responsibility that requires regular assessment and improvement.

“The goal is to ensure that residents, visitors, investors and business owners can go about their lawful activities without any iota of fear, knowing that the government is taking practical steps to improve security across the state and make the environment safer for everyone,” he said.

The security expert established very strongly that the surveillance facilities have become an important part of the State’s security framework and emergency response system.

He said, “The surveillance network remains an important part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s security strategy as it provides real time information that supports monitoring, investigation, incident management, and rapid response when necessary.”

He further disclosed that the surveillance facilities are linked to the State’s emergency response centre for timely intervention whenever threats emerge.

“These facilities are connected to the 615 Emergency Centre and other security response channels, making it possible for security personnel to quickly observe situations as they develop and take prompt action where necessary,” he noted.

Bibire also stated that Governor Makinde’s administration has continued to demonstrate practical commitment to the security of lives and property through sustained support for security agencies.

According to him, “Since assuming office in 2019, Governor Seyi Makinde has continued to support security agencies through the provision of operational vehicles, communication equipment, logistics support, intelligence resources, and institutional backing because security, to Governor Seyi Makinde, remains the foundation upon which every meaningful development can rest.”

The Oyo Security Adviser continued that the gains recorded in Oyo State’s security sector have been made possible through cooperation among security agencies and the support provided by the State Government.

He said, “We have strengthened collaboration among security agencies, supported Amotekun, improved emergency response systems and continued to encourage residents to play their part by providing timely and credible information.

“The progress recorded in Oyo State over the years has therefore been made possible through cooperation between government, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and residents, and we intend to build further on that foundation.”

He, however, urged residents to complement government efforts by remaining vigilant and making effective use of available emergency reporting channels.

Government will continue to provide the necessary support, but citizens must also remain alert and make use of the 615 emergency line whenever they observe anything capable of threatening public peace and safety,” he said.

Bibire reassured residents that the State Government would continue to review and improve its security architecture in line with emerging realities.

We will continue to assess our security arrangements, deploy resources where necessary and embrace practical solutions that will help us stay ahead of criminal elements and keep Oyo State safe for all,” he concluded.

Polity Reporters reports that the inspection formed part of the State Government’s comprehensive efforts to maintain a reliable security surveillance network that will be in a position to support effective policing, crime prevention, intelligence gathering and rapid response operations across Oyo State.
